THE EASIEST FASHION DIY’S AND UPCYCLING

In a society where being eco-friendly is so important, and many people are cautious about their carbon footprint on the environment – upcycling clothes is a big part of people’s wardrobes. Upcycling clothes is the process of taking old, worn out or damaged clothing and transforming it into something new. (Marshall, 2021) For example, clothing that doesn’t fit any longer, is torn or stained, can be refashioned into a new product, through some simple DIY’s.

Bleach Sweater

One of the first ways to upcycle old clothing and to add a DIY, bleach it! Taking an old sweater you’ve had in your closet for the last couple of seasons makes a great pick for this DIY. All you will need is the sweater, rubber bands and bleach. Tying the sweater using rubber bands, and putting the bleach all over in random spots it will give you a new sweater that has an edgy and grunge-style feel to it.

Wrap Crop Top

Taking an old t-shirt and turning it into a crop is another easy DIY and upcycling activity you can do. The simplest way to do this is to take an old t-shirt, and cut across the waist to now have a boxy shape crop top. There are also other fun and easy ways to do this. In this article by The Felted Fox, they explain how you can take an old shirt and turn it into a crop top, and wear it multiple ways.

Many people also have an abundance of old t-shirts that they no longer wear. Turning them into a tote bag for shopping is the perfect way to upcycle them and a fun DIY. There’s a handful of ways to make these bags, this article below by Tracy Ariza goes into great detail on how to make them!
