We are about to enter the blooming season of spring. With spring comeS floral, pastel colors, and the celebration of Easter. For melanin girls who like to experiment with makeup, this season may or may not pose some challenges in terms of you trying things outside of the box.
Who doesn’t want to look radiant with sparkly eyes, glowing skin, and the appearance of a full night’s sleep? That’s exactly what the right color can do for you. The colors you choose to wear have the ability to either wash you out (yikes) or highlight your gorgeous features, and that’s powerful. Discovering which colors flatter your skin tone is not an easy task, but it is possible with the help of color theory for skin tones.
This spring, the pastel trend is moving from the closet to the makeup bag. For black women in particular, super-light pinks, blues, lavender,s and whites risk making you look ashy and washed-out, so it’s important to keep your undertones in mind when choosing a color.
If you have reddish undertones, try pinks and yellows; if you have yellow undertones, try blues and purples. If you skew neutral, pick peachy shades. Be sure to prime your lids with a cream-based primer, like Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, $12, to make the color appear more vivid. Lastly, fine advises applying dark liner (in a complementary color or black) and mascara.
