THE 5 BEST CELEBRITY PROPOSALS

-

It’s officially springtime, and we all know what that means: proposals and romance galore! Whether you’re looking for proposal inspiration or just getting in the springtime spirit, these five celebrity engagements are sure to make you swoon. Grab your tissues—love is in the air, but so is pollen.

1. Sofia Vergara & Joe Manganiello

Joe Manganiello learned and wrote an entire speech in Spanish—a language he’s not fluent in—when proposing to Sofia Vergara in 2014 after only six months of dating. The paparazzi ruined the initial proposal, but Joe was able to improvise and ended up proposing in front of the hotel room bay window during the sunset. The two had a gigantic wedding ceremony in 2015 complete with designer dresses and a surprise musical performance by Pitbull, and have been happily married ever since.

2. Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka have been an LGBTQ+ power couple ever since their relationship went public in 2006. In 2007, Burtka proposed to Harris on the street corner where they first met. One year later, Harris returned the sentiment and proposed to Burtka on Valentine’s Day. They didn’t publicly announce their engagement until the New York State Senate passed the Marriage Equality Bill in 2011, and after 10 years and two kids, the pair was finally able to get married in 2014 in a private ceremony in Italy.

3. JoJo Fletcher & Jordan Rodgers

Jordan Rodgers gave JoJo Fletcher a swoon-worthy proposal during the season 12 finale of The Bachelorette, but it’s his surprise second proposal that makes this list. Jordan re-proposed to JoJo (with a new ring!) while the two toured a potential wedding venue in 2019. Rodgers knew from the start he wanted to re-propose without all the cameras and producer influence, but this second engagement came as a complete surprise to the former bachelorette. The couple had to postpone their wedding due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but if all goes according to plan, they should be hitched sometime this summer.

4. Gabrielle Union & Dwyane Wade

Sometimes, an engagement means getting more than just a life partner. When proposing to Gabrielle Union in December 2013, Dwyane Wade recruited the help of his son, daughter and nephew. In an interview with Oprah, he stated, “I decided that she wasn’t just marrying me, she was marrying all of us.” The children each made their own signs and said “Will you marry us?” while Dwyane got down on one knee. This simple yet incredibly thoughtful and romantic proposal gave Gabrielle both a husband and stepchildren, and after marrying in 2014, they’re still going strong.

 5. Pink & Carey Hart

Pink has always been outspoken about feminism and gender roles,  so it’s no surprise she took matters into her own hands and proposed to her husband herself! During the 2005 motorcycle Pro 250 class finals, Pink stepped onto the track with a sign that said “Will You Marry Me?” as Carey entered the third lap. Thinking it was a joke, Carey kept on racing, so Pink made some alterations and added “Serious!” to her sign. Upon his realization of the situation, Carey jumped off his bike and accepted the proposal. The pair got married six months later and now share two children together.
