BILLIE EILISH SPEAKS OUT ON BODY SHAMERS

-

EILISH ADVOCATES IN HER VIDEO “NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY” THE ISSUE OF BODY SHAMMING

Billie Eilish American singer and songwriter who has won five Grammy awards is known for her consistent preference for baggy clothes as her everyday attire. Eilish has stated that she prefers to wear baggy clothes because of her insecurities and to avoid being sexualized. Daze revealed an interview with the artist stating, “The only reason I did it was ’cos I hated my body.” said Eilish. She said wearing bagging clothes allows her mental state to be more at ease because she is more comfortable.

She has been authentic to her style since the beginning of her career until now. She has emphasized that she has become so used to her appearance with the clothes she does not recognize herself without them. Eilish has advocated against people who have tried to objectify her.

In 2019 she was photographed in a white tank top which was made a big deal because it was unusual of her to be in tight-fitting clothing.

She immediately spoke out against body shamers who accused her of saying she was promiscuous  because she turned 18 and had a tight shirt on. Some people hate what I wear, some people praise it. Some people use it to shame others, some people use it to shame me,” Eilish said in a voiceover with Daze.

Eilish understands many young people look up to her and she makes it easy for people to relate to her in matters of body image. She loves making people feel more comfortable in their bodies. In an interview, Eilish states, “If I wear what is comfortable, I am not a woman. If I shed the layers, I’m a s—.”

She has had enough of the body shamers and continues to fight against the unrealistic beauty standards in the music industry and for everyone as well. Eilish released a short film on May 26, 2020, titled “ NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY.”

Eilish has released her short film across her social media channels.

The point of the film was to emphasize the struggle of body image and reinforce body positivity. She speaks on the opinions made by society on various body types and how she will not let body-shammers faze her. Billie is stripping from her sweater into a tank top to emphasize the power she has with her body and how she is not ashamed.
