RIHANNA DOES IT AGAIN! FENTY FOR MEN!
That Rihanna reign just won’t let up! In early October, Rihanna revealed a new addition to her lingerie line: men’s loungewear. She introduced the fresh designs at her Savage X Fenty Vol. 2 show, which was her third fashion show for the lingerie line.
Savage X Fenty now offers a small selection of boxers, briefs, robes, satin trunks and pajamas for anyone on the gender spectrum. In typical Rihanna fashion, she successfully incorporated body size diversity and inclusivity in the new line. Men and non-binary people of various body types were showcased rocking the premiere additions.
Particularly, a shirtless, plus-size male model featured in the show went viral on Twitter after users expressed their reactions to seeing him. People tweeted their pleasant surprise viewing the larger model in the show; others happily noted that it was their first time seeing a man of that size featured in fashion at all. These Twitter users appreciated Rihanna’s choice to proudly include various body types in her show to reflect real life.
The models in the show stood out by doing more than just posing in the clothing—no, this was not a Victoria Secret’s fashion show. The Savage X Fenty models danced as if they were backup dancers for a concert, proving the durability of the line’s fabrics. Many models were also incorporated into the performances of musical guests; Rosalia, one of the performers at the show, featured men and non-binary people dancing in heels as she sang.
The show clearly displayed a diverse pool of models; men, women and non-binary people of various ethnicities were showcased confidently wearing clothes from Rihanna’s line. She made it clear that her makeup, skincare and fashion lines are not exclusive to women and are for all who are interested.
For the men’s line, Rihanna tapped on Christian Combs, Diddy’s son, to create the designs. Rihanna selecting Combs as one of the designers was a huge win for Black men, as they are usually left out of board meetings and often don’t have input in designing clothes.
Combs’s pieces are simpler than most of Rihanna’s lingerie line, as the menswear primarily consists of solid-colored designs. The menswear offers a small selection of boxers in black, blue, white, and red that feature the Savage X Fenty logo on the waistbands. The toned-down designs likely appeal to a broader audience as men usually gravitates toward simple, solid colors.
The men’s line is unsurprisingly sold out, but with all the positive reception and demand that the products received, there will likely be a restock at some point. Rihanna’s vision and execution in the recent Savage X Fenty demonstrate inclusivity and body positivity is here to stay!
