WOMEN’S MARCH RESPONDS TO JUDGE AMY CONEY BARRETT’S SCOTUS CONFIRMATION
New York, NY – The United States Senate has voted to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, shifting the balance of the court far to the right and granting President Trump his third high court nominee in just four years. In response, the Women’s March released this statement:
“Judge Amy Coney Barrett has a long record of supporting anti-choice, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ+, and anti-gun control cases, a record that directly threatens the freedoms, rights, and feminist values Women’s March has fought so hard to defend. By moving forward with confirming Judge Barrett to the Supreme Court, Senate Republicans have shown us their brazen disregard for human life and their willingness to strike down the Affordable Care Act in the middle of a public health emergency.
“As we continue to face this public health and economic crisis, it has become clear that Senate Republicans have no time or interest in the women of this country – especially poor women and women of color – who have borne the brunt of the pandemic’s economic and health devastation. The White House plan to celebrate the nomination in-person, despite the COVID-19 outbreak at their last event, further embodies the dangerous incompetence and cruelty that has defined the Republican Party throughout this pandemic.
“But the voice of women will be heard on November 3rd. We are the most powerful force in American electoral politics today and we are ready to mobilize the vote across the country to show that we are ready, willing, and able to face down the elites who are trying to actively cheat their way to an election win. We are here to make it very clear: the political leaders who take over the White House and Senate on November 3rd are accountable to us, and their agenda must reflect one that works for all.”
