JULY LUXE BEAUTY: LOLITA PENN

-

Congratulations on your Luxe Beauty of the month feature. What were your first thoughts when you found out you were going to be a featured Luxe Beauty?

LOLITA: When I first found out that I was going to be a featured Luxe Beauty i was ecstatic. I thought to myself how awesome it is to be a part of a publication that helped women and men to embrace their curves. As plus size women and men we deserve to be seen and celebrated. Luxe Kurves Magazine does a wonderful job in showcasing the inclusion and diversity of all shapes and sizes along with elaborating on important topics that affect the plus size community. I am truly humbled and honored to be selected as a Luxe Beauty Feature.

NO: Can you tell our readers a little about yourself?

LOLITA: I am 38 years old. I currently live in Las Vegas, Nevada with my husband and our two children. Besides modeling, I also love to sing and dance. I strive to inspire women to be bold, confident, and to embrace themselves. It’s important to me to inspire women to love themselves because I know it can impact you negatively when it comes to being your own worst critic. However, I am proud to say that I became more comfortable in my skin and decided to own who I am, flaws and all.

NO:  July  is our “Freedom Of Kurves” issue. How important is it for women to embrace their kurves?

LOLITA: It is imperative for women to embrace their curves. Life is too short to condemn yourself because of your body type. You only get one body so you deserve to treat it with love. Curvaceous bodies are beautiful. A woman will become so powerful within herself when she decides to embrace her curves and beauty. It’s healthy for the soul when you know in your mind and heart  that you are beautiful no matter how your body is shaped.
NO: How has COVID-19 affected your daily life?

LOLITA: COVID-19 actually has made a great impact in my life for the better. it helped me to re-evaluate some aspects of my life and make changes accordingly. I got to spend more time with my family. I grew closer to God. I focused on enhancing my mental health by reading inspirational books and viewing videos. I became more productive with my modeling brand by participating in more photoshoots. Overall, COVID-19 forced me to focus more on the important things in my life that needed my attention.

NO: What can we do more as an industry to advocate more woman embracing their bodies and loving them without the pressure of the social media?

LOLITA: The standards of how plus size bodies are viewed, within the industry, must be challenged and changed. Every designer, influencer, blogger and clothing brands within the industry should push for all body types to be celebrated and showcased. Unfortunately, the pressure of social media can be detrimental  because perfect body types are pushed in our faces constantly. However, the industry can change the narrative and use social media to celebrate every body type. The industry can continue to increase the visibility of women of all shapes and sizes who dare to celebrate the skin that they are in through social media.

NO: The State of the Plus Size industry is every changing. What are your views on the state of the plus size industry?

LOLITA: The state of the Plus Size industry is progressing for the better. I am proud to see that plus size women have more clothing options to choose from and wear. I am excited to see plus size women emerging on the forefront in the entertainment industry. It’s beautiful to see plus size advocates, such as bloggers and influencers, to help advocate for plus size women to be bold and celebrate their bodies. The plus size industry came a long way, but it has a long way to go. The diversity of body shapes and sizes should be included and viewed more on national fashion show runways and modeling agencies. I do have faith that if the plus size community keeps pushing for more diversity in plus size visibility, all different body types will begin to be showcased strongly within the plus size fashion industry.
NO: What is the one thing you would tell a young girl looking in the mirror who is having a hard time loving her kurves?

LOLITA: I would tell her to view yourself as a masterpiece. God created you with those curves because He knows that you will carry them with power, confidence, and love. You have the right to believe that you are beautiful just the way you are. As long as you believe in yourself, other people’s opinions don’t matter. Embrace your curves and show them off to the world.

NO:  Tell our readers one of your beauty secrets?

LOLITA: One of my beauty secrets is that I wash my face daily with Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser. It helps to minimize the oiliness in my skin. After I cleanse my face I rub my face with Ponds moisturizing cream. I also drink a lot of water daily so I can keep my skin hydrated and it can reflect a flow.

NO:  Do you have a fashion tip to give our readers for summer?

LOLITA: My fashion tip is to go bold with colors and patterns in your wardrobe. Don’t be afraid of colors of and patterns you normally don’t wear. Some bold colors and patterns help enhance your shape to be curvaceous.

NO:  What do you want your legacy to be?

LOLITA: I want my legacy to consist of encouraging women to walk in their truth. Through modeling and other projects i want to set the example of what being bold and confident in oneself is all about. I hope to lay the foundation of embracing your beauty inside and out regardless of your size. I want to inspire young girls and women who look like me to own who they are unapologetically, flaws, body shape, and all.
