Congratulations on your Luxe Beauty of the month feature. What were your first thoughts when you found out you were going to be a featured Luxe Beauty?
MICHELLE: I was in complete shock! With all that’s going on, it was such a breath of fresh air to hear such good news. I am grateful.
NO: Can you tell our readers a little about yourself?
MICHELLE: My name is Michelle Lee. I am a Plus Size Model born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Currently based out of New Jersey. I am Puerto Rican and a mother of two amazing little people. I’ve been pursuing modeling for the past 3 years; recently becoming signed to The Dozier Agency.
NO: July is our “Freedom Of Kurves” issue. How important is it for women to embrace their kurves?
MICHELLE: This is the reason behind my journey. I am a huge advocate for all bodies deserve love; all bodies are beautiful. We only have one; our body is our temple. Love it now! Regardless of what society says. Put on those shorts, wear that crop top. Cellulite, scars, whatever it may be…OWN IT!
NO: How has COVID-19 affected your daily life?
MICHELLE: I’ve been working from home and home schooling two children since this begun. It’s very overwhelming, but has also been a blessing in disguise. More time with my family at home, enjoying our surroundings, and just appreciating the simpler things in life.
NO: What can we do more as an industry to advocate more woman embracing their bodies and loving them without the pressure of the social media?
MICHELLE: Showcase different body types. Even though we have Plus Size; so many showcase the same models, same body types. Women want to see theirselves in these ads, catalogs, etc.
NO: What is the one thing you would tell a young girl looking in the mirror who is having a hard time loving her kurves?
MICHELLE: You are beautiful. You are magical. You are worthy.
NO: Tell our readers one of your beauty secrets?
MICHELLE: Let your skin breathe. Moisturize with vegan, natural products. Stay hydrated.
NO: Do you have a fashion tip to give our readers for summer?
MICHELLE: Comfort is key! Being a plus women, I suffer from problems with my knees and ankles. You can pair anything with a dope pair of kicks.
NO: What do you want your legacy to be?
MICHELLE: She was fearful! No matter the obstacles in the way, she persevered with scrapes, bumps, and bruises, but her head always remained held high.
