THE UNITED STATES IS IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR RIGHT NOW. THE PEOPLE ARE AGAINST THE SYSTEM.
According to Brookings.edu, ever since Trump’s election in 2016, there has been “an anomalous spike in hate crimes” taking place in counties where Trump won at a significantly larger margin. Brookings.edu also states it has been “the second-largest uptick in hate crimes in the 25 years for which data are available,” the first being the attack that took place on September 11, 2001. Is the President creating a safe environment for his people or a war within its own borders? By allowing our President to categorize these stereotypes based on race, he is allowing his fellow Americans to do the same. Creating a gateway for more hate crimes throughout the years, just as the statistics show. Having a President that does not have any respect for human morality in office creates a disrespectful nation. “United we stand, divided we fall.”
With all the protests that have been happening in the name of George Floyd’s justice President Donald Trump thought he should approach his presidential stand to give a statement. One of the first things the President of the United States had to say in regards to George Floyd’s murder was that he “will not of died in vain”. George Floyd did not “die in vain” he was murdered over a counterfeit $20 bill. Where Thomas Lee (one of the cops involved in the murder of George Floyd) roams free off a one million dollar bond that was raised for his undeserving freedom, how is justice being served? How is George Flyd’s life and the many other innocent black lives that were taken at the hand of police brutality being “justified”? Derek Chauvin, the officer who took George Floyd’s life, had a total of 18 complaints over his 19-year career as a police officer. If the police force had taken the first 18 complaints seriously, maybe Mr. Floyd would still be with us. Maybe a wife would still have a husband, a daughter would still have her father and a family would not be mourning the death of a loved one. Unfortunately, in America this is a very common problem that apparently the government is blind to. Mapping Police Violence provides the horrifying statistics that show unarmed black men being targeted and killed by the police and not receiving any consequences for the murders that took place.
President Donald Trump’s reaction to these unjust murders show no indication of making promising, safe changes. Instead his intentions to keep his country safe is by releasing “thousands and thousands of heavily armed soldiers, military personnel and law enforcement officers” into the streets. Does the President not even hear the cries of his people? It seems the only time Donald Trump is for “black lives” is when they are voting for him. However, when it comes to the protests that are being held in the name of not just George Floyd but Treyvon Martin, Sandra Bland, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Eric Garner and many, many more black lives that have been taken at the hand of police brutality. Is he still standing with his black community? How are these cries for help and justice being answered? With more police brutality? Donald Trump’s mindset is exactly what is wrong with America. During the President’s speech June first, he gave a quick 5 seconds to speak on George Floyd ”not dying in vain” then went into every negative comment he could think about regarding the brave lives standing up to this corrupt government demanding justice. The President tries to prove a point by mentioning in his speech that “a woman was viciously attacked by dangerous thugs” in NY. However he fails to mention the medical workers not being safe due to the incompetence of the police force. For instance, Rayne Valentine who was wearing his hospital ID when he was beaten by police officers in New York later having to receive staples to mend his wounds. As well as a doctor in Miami, FL that was tear gassed during a peaceful protest.
When President Donald Trumps says he will be “prosecuting to the fullest extent of the law” anyone who interferes will the safety of his “law abiding Americans” does this not include the police officers who have abused the power that was given to them to originally serve and protect its people and community? When will the police be held accountable for their actions?
