CHLOE X HALLE IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Chloe x Halle, the R&B sister duo, are climbing up the ladder into the spotlight. Their successful career started on YouTube, catching the attention of large names like Beyoncé, starring in multiple films and shows, earning various awards and nominations.
The sisters were born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Los Angeles, California. 13-year-old Chloe and 11-year-old Halle uploaded their first video, a cover of Beyoncé’s song “Best Thing I Never Had, to YouTube on June 30, 2011. The video earned over five million views, but the sisters were just getting started.
When Chloe x Halle opened themselves to the world, people started to pay attention and celebrities kept a close eye on the sisters. On December 22, 2013, Chloe x Halle uploaded another cover, this time of Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts,” which now has over 18 million views. Three years after that upload on YouTube, ABC News reported that Chloe x Halle caught the eye of Beyoncé, which would eventually earn them a million-dollar deal with Parkwood Entertainment. Beyoncé now serves as the sisters’ mentor, providing them with many opportunities to further enhance their careers.
On October 21, 2018, Chloe x Halle went to The Real Daytime, where Halle Bailey said, “One of the best pieces of advice that Beyoncé has given us – well, she personally has told us to let the world catch up to you, don’t dumb down yourself to the world.” The girls have proven that they took the advice throughout their careers by being true to themselves.
In July of 2019, Halle lended a role for the famous Disney movie, The Little Mermaid. The news was received well by some fans, and others were arguing whether she fits the part of Ariel because she is a black girl. The #NotMyAriel hashtag began trending, causing many celebrities, such as Halle Berry and Mariah Carey, to speak out against the racial injustices Halle was facing. Throughout the negativity, the sisters kept it classy and carried on with a positive attitude by posting a picture of a brown skin mermaid on Instagram “dream come true… (mermaid emoji, water wave emoji) #thelittlemermaid.”
Chloe x Halle is now starring in the hit sitcom Grown-ish and is actively performing and releasing music. Most recently, they released their hit single “Do It.” Currently, the sisters are working on their new projects, anticipating the arrival of their starring in “The Little Mermaid.” With the help of great supporters, boundaries, work ethics, Chloe x Halle continues to rise in the world of R&B music, and the world continues to shine a spotlight on the success of these two sisters.
