Meet one of the newest upcoming artists whose lyrical talent has been making waves in the past year, Flo Milli. Her music has garnered attention entirely through the power of social media. Her breakout song “Beef Flomix” went viral over Instagram when it was released in October 2018, often being used in the background of meme pages or fan accounts. Soon it started getting attention on TikTok, a social media video creation app marketed for teens. This prompted its official release on music streaming platforms in July 2019. From there;her release of another single “In the Party” also went viral, taking off on TikTok with over 500,000 videos using her song in the background. “In the Party” currently has 27 million streams on Spotify and “Beef Flomix” has 35 million.

She started rapping when she was 11,  and at 20 years old her career has catapulted. Flo Milli, born Tamia Carter, was raised in Mobile, Alabama. She was inspired to start rapping after seeing a video of Nicki Minaj on BET’s 106 & Park. When she was younger she formed a small rap group named Real and Beautiful, who later changed their name to Pink Mafia and performed at talent shows and other things like that, from there she perfected her craft, releasing her first single titled “No Hook” in 2017 when she was 16 years old and then her breakout hit “Beef Flomix” in 2018. Without even dropping an album yet, Flo Milli has managed to gain over 100 million streams worldwide.

One of the most significant aspects of Flo Milli’s music is how genuine and personal her songs are because of how she writes her music. She’s relatable to her audience and has a natural gift for writing, telling Genius that she freestyled “Beef Flomix” in five minutes. But, at the same time, she also cares about her craft and is very critical of her work. She was only pushed to release “Beef Flomix” and “In the Party” by her friends and fans, and it’s a good thing that she was.

Recently, Flo Milli’s online success with her single “In the Party” caught the attention of Cardi B and Rico Nasty, who just chose to co-sign her. After listening to her song, Cardi B sent out a tweet saying that Flo Milli had “a unique catchy voice and good songs”  When asked who influenced her, Flo Milli cited Rico Nasty as one of her inspirations. In an interview with XXL Magazine, she said that one of her most standout moments to date was “meeting Rico Nasty” because she used to listen to her music in high school before Rico Nasty blew up.

Flo Milli has only released five singles, but she has already made a name for herself. There’s something about her confidence and charisma that captivates her audience and leads many to believe that she is about to become one of the next biggest rap artists in the game. Her potential seems limitless and with big names like Cardi B and Rico Nasty backing her, nothing can stop her from leaving her mark on the music industry.
