In response to the world’s growing increase in the need for supplies during this pandemic, French luxury brands have made the production a priority. LVMH, the parent company for Givenchy, Guerlain, and Christian Dior, are working to produce free hand sanitizer for French health authorities.
By utilizing their cosmetic production factories, the brands have equipment and ingredients ready to begin production immediately. The brands’ filling machines, bottles, and pumps are all being repurposed for the production of hand-sanitizer gel.
According to The Cut, Dior, Givenchy, and Guerlain’s liquid soaps and creams have a “viscosity very similar to that of hand-sanitizer gel,” making this transition quite seamless.
LVMH posted on Instagram, “Given the risk of a shortage of hydroalcoholic gel in France, Bernard Arnault instructed the LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics business to manufacture within their production sites as much gel as needed to support the public authorities.”
The hand-sanitizer gels will be delivered to Assistance Publique-Hospitaux de Paris in addition to the health authorities. This is a network of 39 teaching hospitals dedicated to the care of millions of patients each year, and the continuation of such help thanks to LVHM.
France lacked the amount of product necessary to prevent the spread of the virus. According to the CDC, there are specific guidelines in regards to the ingredients of a hand sanitizer. This is a means to ensure that French healthcare officials are distributing products that are effective and can be trusted to stay within the given guidelines of the CDC. The luxury brands are using their high-quality standards to assist the process of stopping the spread of COVID-19. France, the fifth country to reach a death toll of 1,000 people, clearly needs this now more than ever as cases continue to surface.
