NO: Why did you choose fashion design?
TM: I’ve always loved fashion and decided as a child to pursue my dreams. I believe fashion is a statement of who you are! I admire people who arent afraid to step outside of the box, dump the fads and be authentically original.Fashion is the traditional way of letting the world know who you are. There’s no need to be a copy, when the perfect original.
NO: What are your personal qualities which distinguish you from others?
TM: I have a strong Christian foundation and use whats taught to engage others.I believe in being humble, being arrogant will destroy you as a person and alienate others from wanting to be around you. I love helping others pursue their dreams, I believe in being selfless for the greater good. I truly am happy to see other people happy. I believe God is using me as a vessel to uplifting one another, especially our women it’s vital.
NO: What can we do more as an industry to advocate more woman embracing their bodies and loving them without the pressure of the media?
TM: As a society some have forgotten the importance of self-love. I strongly believe my generation and those following need to see natural, happy women who are comfortable in their own skin! I believe there’s enough success for all of us and working together as a collective unit is vital. I would love to see an strong, effective organization lead by women, supporting women to be developed. We need one another and society is tearing us apart.
NO: What is one thing in 2020 want to conquer?
TM: 2020, I will conquer mass producing my items so it can affordable to those interested in purchasing. I will producing/managing my first show this year; prayerfully, this will be the beginning of a traveling fashion show.
NO: What is the one thing you would tell a young girl looking in the mirror who is having a hard time loving her kurves?
TM: Love the skin you’re in. We were made in “his” image. Kurves are sexy and tell a story, stretch marks should be carried as a bade of honor; in my opinion. Self-love and self-care are the foundation of loving yourself. It’s a mindset…show those Kurves; it’s not the pants or dress size that makes you beautiful, it’s self confidence.
NO: What projects do you have coming up that you’d like our readers to know about?
TM: February 15th I’ll be participating in Harlem Fashion Week. This is a dream come true for me. This show was on my Vision Board and now that’s been accomplished. I’m working on my first show in May 2020; in which I’m very excited. Additionally, my line will be massed produced; which is exciting.
NO: What do you want your legacy to be?
TM: I want my legacy to be that I loved unconditionally, lived my best life and spread humanity to those in need. I want people to smile and have a positive statement to say about me.
