GIRLFRIENDS
NO: Can you tell our readers a little about yourself?
KEYO: My name is Keyo NePortia Rucker, but I go by my Keyo NePortia named after my Great-Grandmother. It’s an honor to share a name with such a phenomenal woman who didn’t allow barriers to limit her. We called her “barrier-breaker”, lol! My great grandmother always made sure love was shown in the household no matter what! and my parents continued her purpose.
She is also the reason why I have taken on this new journey of being a fashion model. I love everything that comes with it. I appreciate the people I meet, the places I go, and the longs hours developing and perfecting my modeling career.
NO: What 6 words describe you best?
KEYO: I am B’ed out! Bubbly! Blunt! Blessed! Beautiful! Bold! BlackGirlMagic!
NO: What can we do more as an industry to advocate more for our cancer and for domestic violence survivors?
KEYO: Be open to having more conversations and stop looking at the topic as taboo. Nothing brings more awareness and support then conversing with one another.
NO: Define what friendship means to you.
KEYO: Friendship goes way beyond just spending time together, it is a combination of affection, loyalty, love, respect, support, trust, etc. I also believe a friend is someone who protects your reputation as their own.
NO: What do you love about your girlfriends individually and why?
KEYO: OMG! Where do I start?! Each one of them has so many great qualities! My best friends (Keiyana and CeeCee), I can call them for ANYTHING, from talking about the endless possibilities that life has to offer us to poop! The laughs are endless! Shari Henry @ShariHenry, a designer, mother, and overall BOSS! She has a heart of gold with a built-in lie detector. Lol! Jalisa is resilient, jack of all trades! My boo is a complete threat – dancer, singer, actress, makeup artist! Nothing ever stops her not even a sprained foot! HA! Faren is Wonder Woman, from military to model, she is dedicated and consistent. Nothing gets past her! Midori, is a conflict resolution specialist, any problem you are facing she has the answer. The advice is always on point.
NO: What is the one thing you would tell a young girl looking in the mirror who is having a hard time loving herself?
KEYO: I would tell her to continue to look directly at herself in that mirror and say, “I love you!” repeatedly and never skip a day! Life and death is in the Power of the tongue, and what a man or woman thinks in their heart is who they are. So, continue to tell yourself “I love you and my individuality makes me beautiful!”
NO: What’s the meaning of a Luxe Beauty to you?
KEYO: Women empowerment and self-love!
NO: What do you want your legacy to be?
KEYO: I want to be a living testament that anything is obtainable with Christ by my side through integrity, honesty, truth, and love.
