Mornings are a stressful venture!
It is easy to say that we will wake up early, workout, have time to doll ourselves up, and leave for work with time to spare, but–more often that not–what actually happens is the opposite. No matter how messy our mornings get, one thing that will start the day off on a positive note is a healthy and filling breakfast. It is essential to keep our minds and bodies happy and full of energy, but sometimes there is simply no time to make an egg white omelet or a vegan meal before school or work. If you are the kind of person who eats their meal while simultaneously putting shoes on, here are our suggestions:
Omelet in a mug: The omelet section on diners’ menus always looks particularly magnetic, but you can save yourself a trip and make one in mug. For that, you will need to mix 2 eggs, throw in your veggies of choice (spinach and tomatoes is a great combination), spices and herbs, a splash of milk for consistency, and extra protein like chicken or cheese if you want. Whisk it all together with a fork, put it in the microwave for 2 and a half minutes with a plate covering the top to avoid the spill, and voila! Now you have a protein packed breakfast that will help you skip the crash from high carb sugary foods, while you go and make your day really count.
Oats and nuts: Another mug recipe to take along with you on your morning commute. All you need to do is take a half cup of dry oats, 1 cup of water, 2 tbs of peanut butter, mix it all together, and put in the microwave for 2 and a half minutes, again with a plate on top as a precaution. Let it sit for 2 minutes, so it can cool down and so the oats absorb the water, give it another stir, and now you have complex carbs and protein that will keep you satisfied for a long time. If you want to mix in some cinnamon or cacao powder to sweeten it, that is always a great option as well and will not cost you your calories.
Whole wheat wrap: Who says that breakfast just has to be french toast, eggs, or pancakes? Take a whole wheat tortilla, add hummus, spinach, tomato, and turkey, and roll it all together to get a delicious and nutritious wrap. It takes two minutes to make, but will keep you going for many, many hours.
Banana coffee protein shake: This a great option for people who like the mobility and the waking effect of coffee. Take 10 oz of any milk of your choice, 1 sliced up banana, a cup of ice, a scoop of protein powder, and a spoonful of instant coffee. After blending it all up, you will have a drinkable meal that will also give your body its daily caffeine dosage.
Breakfast banana split: If you have more of a sweet tooth, then this is the perfect breakfast for you. Get a bowl, cut up a large banana, add a half cup of greek yogurt, add your favorite berries, sprinkle some cinnamon on top, squirt 1 tbs of honey all over, and add some chopped nuts if you want more crunch and extra protein to keep you fuller longer. Your brain is thinking it just had dessert for breakfast, but your body will be thanking you for choosing a light and healthy option that is packed with nutrients.
Regardless of how crazy your morning gets, it is so important to remember that in order to have enough energy to make it through the day, your body needs to be fueled properly. Skipping breakfast will cause so many problems throughout the day like fatigue, lack of focus, crankiness, and more. Eat breakfast and you can have the energy to rock your day!
