BET AWARDS 2018…………
Last night the BET Awards was the talk of the night! Since day one I have watched every year with excitement and wondered “How AMAZING is this?! An award show for our culture!” This year I felt something different in the air for the award show. Covering it , something was off and hearing it from others in media I knew I was not the only one who felt this change.
Recapping the awards hosted by Jaime Fox the theme in the air was “Black Celebration,” which it should always be but this year due to the climate of the world it’s much more needed. Jaime Foxx did a great job setting the tone of the night of what the theme would be. Despite that I do feel there were a lot of misses this year’s for the BET Awards show.
LUXE HIGHLIGHTS
Meek Mill’s performance spoke to the truth of what we are going through today in America. The innocent killing of black men, women, and children. The prison reform against minorities. In my opinion Meek’s Mill performance with Miguel was his BEST performance.
H.E.R. all I could say was “YES!” R&B is making a comeback in a way that us much needed. Her performance was captivated especially her covering Lauryn Hill just made you fall back in love with R&B.
Anita Baker Lifetime Achievement Award! Ledisi, Yolanda Adams and Marsha Ambrosius tribute had me standing on my feet! The elegance of the performance from all three made you realize even more how great Anita Baker is to our culture!
Snoop Dogg cannot do no wrong! An artist that has evolved in ever genre of music and looks so cool doing it! I salute our icon who kicked off his performance with hits from his first album to ending it with his song with gospel artist Tye Tribbett! Taking us to CHURCH the Dog Father way!
There were SO many misses this year that I will be writing for days! I just hope BET Awards 2019 evolves back to the greatness it started out with!
