FITNESS: MAINTAIN YOUR KURVES THIS SPRING!!

PUMP UP YOUR KURVES

When we think of curves we may think of old Hollywood bombshells, Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Sofia Vergara. Who doesn’t want a body like Beyoncé? I know I do! The problem is most of us have no idea where to start. There are so many fitness hacks going around these days and it can be hard to distinguish what works and what is just a big hoax.

After years of fitness research, experimentation, and trial and error, I have found what I believe is the best way to obtain curved through fitness. Four words: Stop focusing on cardio. Don’t get me wrong, cardio is a great and part of fitness and promotes a healthy heart and circulation, but if you are trying to obtain and maintain a curvy figure, you need to focus on bulking up your muscles and the best way to do that is through weights.

Whether it be heavy weights or your own body weight, weighted workouts are amazing for toning and shaping up your body. Lifting weights grows your muscles which, in turn, shapes your body: a nice round butt, nice firm arms, a perky chest, and shapely legs.

For the booty: squats upon squats, lunges upon lunges, and donkey kicks are your best friend, but make one thing clear. Make sure you are performing these exercises with proper form or it won’t be as effective and you will be working the wrong muscles in your body. Another great booty shaper that I swear by are step ups and the higher the step, the better. Step ups work your booty, calves, and thighs and raise your heart rate to burn more fat. Such a good burn!

For the chest: push-ups, bench presses, and weighted arm raises. Keep your chest firm and lifted and, again, keep proper form to ensure the best results.

For the arms: Bicep curls, tricep kickbacks, burpees (these burn like crazy), and battle rope swings (another burner but you feel like wonder woman when you do them). You want to focus on all areas of the arms, not just the biceps, so you have firm and toned arms that make you look like Nupita Nyongo when she won her Oscar #armsofagoddess.

For the abs: Downwork to upward dog repeatedly, mountain climbers, leg lifts, burpees, and planks. The great thing about abs is that they get worked when you do things like squats, lunges, or battle ropes because your core is always at work.

These are just a few great exercises to get your body looking curvy and toned. Have fun finding your favorite exercises, but remember that weights are the key to a rocking curvy body.
