The winter holiday is the best time of the year, but it can almost be very daunting for women who are up to date with the latest beauty trends. With Christmas corporate dinners, friendly gatherings, and New Year’s Eve parties, luxe beauties must always stay ahead in order to make a statement at any event. There are a few makeup tips that every woman needs to this holiday season.
Flawless makeup starts with healthy skin, so be sure to have a skin regime in place that caters to your specific skin type. Once this has been established, the list below holds 10 of my most important skin care tips that every luxe beauty must know in order to survive the holiday season with flawless skin.
Make sure to moisturize your skin with an adequate moisturizer. Apply moisturizer before the rest of your routine to hydrate the skin and get some SPF too.
Ensure your makeup goes on smoothly and flawlessly by applying a primer before your other products. Pro tip: Blot it into your face instead of rubbing in.
It does not matter how, where, or with who you will be celebrating your holidays, you must be prepared for the possibility of having your photo taken. Therefore, you want to ensure that you apply a good primer that will make your makeup last and set, without creating any additional oily or shiny spots. Mac Cosmetics creates great spray-on facial primers and eye primers that are guaranteed to keep your makeup on. These can range from $23-$50.
The corporate world is demanding and it can create weary lines around the eyes. Concealers take care of this problem. It is a known fact that concealers also brighten the eye area, corrects discoloration, contours, and bakes the contours of your features, giving you that perfect tone surrounding your eyes. Clinique has been a popular brand of concealer in 2017. Their “All About Eyes” concealer is specifically for those weary lines. The great investment is sold at a bargain of $20.
Oily skin can be both a blessing and curse. The best solution for this issue is the addition of a mattifying powder. This will lock in your foundation and concealer in place, so it’ll stay put while also making any oily areas of your skin matte. Lancome carries a translucence mattifying powder that creates the illusion of a soft and touchable silky skin. It can be found at your local Macy’s for $32.
Blush or highlighter: Depending on the makeup occasion, you can do both. Highlights are better for evening to night events. In terms of blushes, there are a saturation of them on the market. My choices are always pigmented and offer a slight sheen, adding a bit of glimmer into your skin before you pack on the highlighter.
Eyeshadow/Eyeshadow primer: While you’re busy running around wrapping gifts and prepping dinner, you won’t have to think twice about your eyeshadow sliding around your lids with the correct primer. As for eye shadow colors you would want to rock a nude looks during the day and smoky/sultry during the nights.
Brows (remember this is what frames your face): For me, Anastasia Beverly Hills is a forever favorite; it is available in seven tints and fills in brows where it is sparse, and it secures it all into place with one swipe. Brow fillers, depending on your preference of a powder or gel, range anywhere from $15 to $30.
Finish off eyes with a coat or two of your favorite mascara. Hypnose from Lancome achieves a ton of volume and creates drama. While the price is roughly $30, the mascara creates the same volume false lashes or lash extensions would, and with half the effort.
Lips: Red meets brown is the spotlight holiday color. It is a modern 80’s look that has been redefined to fit our beauty culture today. Remember, if you have a bold red lip soften the eye makeup. If you have smokey eyes/bold eye color wear a pale lip color. The key is to make sure the makeup balances properly.
Whatever your party schedule is, these tips will last you a lifetime. Make sure to enjoy the glamorous feeling, you have worked hard the whole year and you deserve this!
