BARE, EXFOLIATE, BRONZE & SUNSCREEN
Sweat, heat, and summer sun can sometimes wreak havoc on your beauty routine, making it more of a challenge to keep your makeup looking fresh and clean. Who wants to spend a lifetime in front of the mirror, you’ve got things to do! Don’t compromise your Glam just because the weather heats up. Here are some tips to help you beat the heat and stay beautiful all summer long.
BARE IS BETTER
Heavy Foundation can look and feel overdone during the summer. Switch to a tinted moisturizer or BB cream for a more natural look and feel. Mineral powder is also a great choice for sheer coverage and shine control. Zero in on skin imperfections with concealer where needed and finish with a sheer powder applied with a fluffy brush. Use blot paper for touch-ups to avoid “cake face.” Start by applying a primer underneath to smooth the skin texture and help makeup last day into evening. And don’t skip the moisturizer! Skin lacking hydration will actually absorb the needed moisture from your makeup and cause it to disappear from your face in a heartbeat.
EXFOLIATE AND HYDRATE BEFORE TANNING
These are always important steps especially during the summer months when you’re showing more skin. Sloughing off the weathered layer on both face and body will not only help your skin glow, it will help you tan more evenly, whether in natural sunlight or from a wipe or bottle. Be attentive to knees, elbows, and ankles when you moisturize to avoid splotches.
BRONZE AND HIGHLIGHT WISELY
These days you should be using bronzer to warm your complexion, not change it completely. And being heavy-handed with your highlighter can leave your skin looking like an oil slick. There is no shortage of natural-looking bronzers and highlighters in all shapes and forms including cream, stick, liquid, and powder. Creamier formulas work best on dryer skin. Use bronzer at the hairline, jawline, and in the hollows of the cheeks using the “number 3” technique. Highlighter goes high on the cheekbone and down the center of the nose. Choose shades that enhance your natural coloring and undertone using a very light hand.
DON’T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN
Protecting your skin from the harmful elements of the sun is essential no matter how deep your skin tone. Use an SPF 15 or greater for maximum protection from the sun’s aging and burning rays. Apply to any exposed skin on your body, and don’t forget about your lips and scalp. Choose a spray formula to quickly and easily reapply as you need to for prolonged sun exposure.
