On June 16, 2017, Tupac Amaru Shakur will be reborn for a new generation. The rebirth shares the actual birthday of the deceased rapper, and plays into the fan’s hearts that the rapper will continue to live forever. Demetrius Shipp Jr. plays, Tupac and honestly he; is such a good fit that I almost fell in love on sight!

The movie will follow Tupac, born Lesane Parish Crooks, from his early years in New York to his rise in California, his dominance with Death Row Records and his untimely death in Las Vegas.

The movie, which has been in the works since 2009, hit quite a few setbacks. In 2009, Morgan Creek Film Company sued Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s mother and executor of estate, for an alleged breach of contract. According to Morgan Creek, Afeni was still shopping the rights of the biopic around after sealing the deal with Creek. The company felt she was trying to sabotage the deal by taking it elsewhere.  Afeni counter-sued for $10 million, saying that the company was trying to coerce her, however there were no final agreements. Multiple directors were also involved with the production, including John Singleton, before Benny Boom was finally nailed down with the job.

Shipp’s involvement feels like destiny, as his father worked with Tupac on the album Don Killuminati 7 Day Theory, for the song “Toss it Up.” We will also see a familiar face on the screen with Jamal Woolard as Biggie, who also played Big in the movie, Notorious.

I honestly cannot wait for this movie to drop. It has been a long time coming and fans have been waiting for so long. Tupac asked, “How long will you mourn me?” And by the buzz of this movie, and my own personal affection for the man, I’d say FOREVER!
