On the heels of this awards season and all of the amazing and glamorous looks we saw come down the red carpet, I’m reminded of the mixed bag of styles presented. The red carpet has always been one of the best places to catch the latest trends and gain inspiration for our own beauty routines, and this year was no exception. What struck me was the variety of shapes, sizes and uniquely individual appearances of these oh-so-chic celebrities. Cookie cutter style has clearly gone the way of the dinosaur, and it seems at every turn we are encouraged to embrace not only our different body types, but also our various hair textures and unique facial features. Here are a few personalities who not only embraced their individuality this award season, but also inspire the rest of us to do the same.
Adele at the Grammys- With an unparalleled voice, and personality to match, Adele’s look and personal style was flawless! Her signature winged eyeliner is #goals and her soft lips and cheeks were the perfect pair for her romantic updo. No heavy contouring or re-shaping of facial features for this Grammy winner, just enhanced in all the right places.
Octavia Spencer at the SAG Awards –The Hidden Figures star and SAG award winner looked radiant from head to toe with a low key hair style, modified smoky eye and natural, glossy lip. She opted not to be cinched into her outfit and instead wore a customized navy tuxedo to be freer, and in her own words to wear “less underwear. A lot less underwear.” The critics loved it and so did we!
Ashley Graham –A red carpet regular, Ashley Graham has come to symbolize the beauty of diversity in body types. The first plus-sized model to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated, she slays daily with an array of glamorous looks. From natural to edgy, Ashley’s look is always on point. Not hard to see why she’s constantly in demand and was recently tapped as a judge on the newly revamped America’s Next Top Model.
Danielle Brooks at the SAG Awards –One of several beauties on the red carpet to rock a style featuring “hair bling”, this Orange Is The New Black costar has embraced the natural hair trend. Looking regal in her faux locs, her designer mock turtleneck and wide-legged pants complimented her full figure beautifully. Her skin was perfection, nude and natural save for a highlighted cheek bone and a pop of color on her eyes. This Screen Actors Guild Award winner owned it!
Our culture of beauty is becoming more and more diverse, from the red carpet to the board room and beyond. And thankfully, so has the perception of just how uniquely beautiful and diverse we all are.
